Hosah Park
Follow the handicapped-accessible paved pathways leading to a shaded pavilion with proximity to the beach shore and witness migrating birds using this critical stopover along the continental flyway.
Wedged between Illinois Beach State Park’s North and South units, Hosah Park is a 23-acre ecological sanctuary. The hideaway rewards patient observers with wood betony emerging through purple fern-like shoots, early spring wildflowers along the pavilion path, and the cooling lake breeze that makes this a birder's refuge for species following the Lake Michigan flyway.

What You Should Know
Trails: Stay on designated trails at all times so as to not disturb wildlife habitat. Also, do not collect any materials from Lake Plain sites apart from photos and memories.
Ticks: Lake Plain Natural Areas have a significant tick population active from April through November. Take precautions: wear long pants tucked into socks, use insect repellent, and check yourself and pets thoroughly after visiting.
Limited Infrastructure: Many Lake Plain Natural Areas are overall purposely maintained in their natural state. Come prepared for a true natural area experience, and abide by all park rules and regulations.
Fragile Ecosystem: Hosah Park is the most ecologically diverse area of the Lake Plain for its size. The globally rare plant communities here require careful stewardship. Please stay on designated trails to preserve this ecological treasure, and never pick plants, dig roots, or collect seeds. Leave no trace.
